Fashion Revolution Week Starts now

Fashion Revolution Week Starts now

Fashion revolution is now upon us! Starting from Monday 18th April to Sunday 24th April 2022, Fashion revolution week will take place. This week is an annual campaign orchestrated by Fashion Revolution in a bid to reimagine the fashion system to make it accessible and sustainable for people and the planet.

Fashion revolution week happens every year near the date of the 24th of April,  to commemorate the anniversary of the 2013 Rana Plaza Collapse. The Rana Plaza Collapse showed a dark side to the fashion industry as this was a garment factory in Dhaka, that collapsed due to a number of engineering and administrative failures which was entirely preventable. These garment workers worked long tiring hours with little pay, to produce most of the clothing we see in big branded stores. Ultimately, this led to the death of 1,134 Bangladeshi individuals that could have been prevented.

Fashion Revolution is a non-for-profit that was founded during the Rana Plaza disaster and has now grown to become the world’s largest fashion activism movement. Their vision is to have a global fashion industry that caters, conserves and restores the environment and values people over profit.

Throughout the week, there will be an epic lineup of events online celebrating changemakers around the world. The events will demonstrate the values of Fashion revolution and give many tips and tricks in preserving the environment and honouring the people who make our clothes.

This year’s theme is “Money Fashion Power” as the fashion industry is dominated by power and exploitation of labour. Wealth and power are seen within a few whilst the majority of people are not paid enough, especially garment workers. It is time to take action and we need to do it now!
To support this cause, Refashion My Town will be holding a 5 day challenge where individuals can make small changes to their buying habits! You can do this anytime and anywhere!

Here is the challenge:

Day one: Shop second hand first and DM @RefashionMyTown on Instagram with your results!

Day two: Swap your clothes with some other clothes!

Day three: Do you sometimes have holes in your clothes, no worries..today’s challenge will be to “repair that hole” !

Day four: Watch the True Cost documentary to understand how the fashion industry affects the world we live in.

Day five: The final challenge is to wear something you haven’t worn for a while!

By doing the challenge each day, don’t forget to DM us your results!
